چکیده

Abstract This study evaluated how late gestation metabolizable energy (ME) intake affects performance and metabolism in beef cattle. Primiparous (PP; n = 45) multiparous (MP; 107) Angus-Simmental cows were blocked by calving date randomly assigned to treatments providing 80 (LME; 52), 100 (CME; 51), or 120% (HME; 49) of ME requirements for 53 d prior calving. Postpartum, fed the same diet. Rib rump fat depths measured ultrasonography on -54, -40, -26, -13, 13, 27, 55 relative Plasma serum collected -53, -39, -25, -10, -3, 7, Serum glucose, beta-hydroxybutyrate, non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA), urea, plasma insulin measured. Data analyzed using PROC GLIMMIX with fixed effects treatment, parity, treatment×parity, random block cow (block), accounting repeated measures. Absolute loss rib prepartum was lesser (P ≤ 0.03) HME. heifers lost more < 0.01) prepartum. Prepartum urea NEFA elevated LME, whereas glucose HME compared LME. Multiparous had greater 0.02) prepartum, PP glucose. Treatment did not affect ≥ 0.56) absolute nor postpartum. LME than beta-hydroxybutyrate postpartum postpartum, insulin. Late gestation supplementation of beef cows differing in body condition score: effects on cow and calf performance.

A 2-yr study utilizing 120 mature, crossbred (Angus × Herford) cows/year, evaluated the influence of cow BCS and dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) supplementation during late gestation on cow performance and productivity of subsequent offspring. Treatments were arranged as a 2×2 factorial in a randomized complete block design with 2 BCS and with or without DDGS supplementation. Cows ...

Winter grazing system and supplementation during late gestation influence performance of beef cows and steer progeny.

A 2 x 2 factorial study evaluated effects of cow wintering system and last trimester CP supplementation on performance of beef cows and steer progeny over a 3-yr period. Pregnant composite cows (Red Angus x Simmental) grazed winter range (WR; n = 4/yr) or corn residue (CR; n = 4/yr) during winter and within grazing treatment received 0.45 kg/d (DM) 28% CP cubes (PS; n = 4/yr) or no supplement (...

Winter grazing system and supplementation of beef cows during late gestation influence heifer progeny.

A 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments was used to evaluate effects of dam winter grazing system and supplementation in the last third of gestation on subsequent BW gain, feed efficiency, and reproduction in heifer progeny. Crossbred cows (yr 1, n = 109; yr 2, n = 114; yr 3, n = 116) grazed range (WR) or corn residue (CR) during winter and within grazing treatment received 0.40 kg/d of 31%...

Supplementation of dried distillers grains with solubles to beef cows consuming low-quality forage during late gestation and early lactation.

Three experiments were conducted to evaluate supplementation of dried distillers grains with solubles (DGS) to spring-calving beef cows (n = 120; 541 kg of initial BW; 5.1 initial BCS) consuming low-quality forage during late gestation and early lactation. Supplemental treatments included (DM basis) 1) 0.77 kg/d DGS (DGSL); 2) 1.54 kg/d DGS (DGSI); 3) 2.31 kg/d DGS (DGSH); 4) 1.54 kg/d of a ble...
